Chelsea are ready to make a surprising move for a Premier League striker

Chelsea are ready to make a surprising move for a Premier League striker

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte.

With the Premier League season beginning in August, clubs have been desperate to get their business done quickly.

Some have succeeded. Manchester United signed Everton’s Romelu Lukaku last week for a fee of £75 million.

That was one of the biggest deals of the summer so far, but don’t expect Jose Mourinho to be done there as he wants to challenge for the title next year.

Arsenal have also made a statement signing this summer. They’ve landed French striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, spending a club record £52 million.

Liverpool have been busy as well, signing youngster Dominic Solanke, as well as Mohamed Salah, who moved from AS Roma to Anfield.

With all these clubs buying big, reigning champions Chelsea will be a little concerned that they’ll face more of a challenge for the title next year.

After missing out on Lukaku to United, Roman Abramovich worked quickly to secure a deal for Tiemoue Bakayoko and it was announced that he joined the club over the weekend.

Like Mourinho’s team, Chelsea will not be done there as Antonio Conte is desperate to sign a new striker to replace Diego Costa, who is expected to leave during the window.

A number of names have been linked, with Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata apparently topping Abramovich’s wish list.

But according to AS journalist Manu Sainz, there’s another surprising striker Chelsea could turn to in the coming days.

Sainz tweeted to suggest that the Blues are looking to sign Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and that Pep Guardiola has already sanctioned the deal.

Of course, the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement, but it appears that the transfer could happen. If it does, Chelsea will land a proven Premier League goalscorer.

Aguero has netted 122 times in 181 league appearances for City, but with Gabriel Jesus back to full fitness next season, the Argentine is unlikely to feature as often as he wants to at the Etihad.
